Cadogan Tate presented a DAY ONE DNA pop-up at the Satellite Art Show during Art Basel Miami Art Week. The fair’s opening night celebration featured a DJ set by DJ Afrika Islam. Visitors experienced an immersive installation from the DAY ONE DNA exhibition that recreated DJ Afrika Islam’s 1980s-era Bronx, NY bedroom. The room, once a formative gathering spot in New York City’s hip-hop scene, was where Ice T and DJ Afrika Islam first began writing and producing Rhyme Pays (1987).

DAY ONE DNA and Cadogan Tate served as official partners for the 14th edition of Untitled Art. The Untitled Art Exhibitor Party, marking the opening of Miami Art Week, featured a virtual appearance by Ice T and a preview of select works from the DAY ONE DNA exhibition presented by DJ Afrika Islam. At the center of the preview was an installation recreating DJ Afrika Islam’s 1980s-era Bronx, NY bedroom — an early headquarters of pioneering New York City hip-hop artists and the site where Ice T and DJ Afrika Islam began writing and producing Rhyme Pays (1987).

Cadogan Tate, in partnership with DAY ONE DNA and the Wright Museum of Art at Beloit College, hosted an exclusive pop-up event at EXPO CHICAGO—the Midwest’s premier international contemporary art fair—at the invitation of Tony Karman and Frieze. The event showcased highlights from the DAY ONE DNA exhibition and included a panel discussion featuring key representatives from the partnering organizations.

The Wright Museum of Art, in collaboration with Gallery ABBA, CELEB, and Visit Beloit, presented the DAY ONE DNA exhibition and hosted a series of related events. Throughout the week, curator Laylah Amatullah Barrayn and the exhibition’s executive producers participated in campus and community engagements centered on museum curating, archival storytelling, and hip-hop culture.

The Hutchins Center’s HipHop50 performance at Harvard University was a legendary live showcase celebrating the genre's earliest music, its creators, and the five elements of hip hop. Produced by Ice T and DJ Afrika Islam, the performance featured Crazy Legs, DJ Tony Crush, DJ Yutaka, Egyptian Lover, Grand Wizard Theodore, MC Sha-Rock, Melle Mel & Scorpio, Mr. Wave, and Treach.

The Hutchins Center’s HipHop50 roundtable at Harvard University convened pioneering artists and architects of hip-hop culture for a foundational conversation about the art form. The VIP & Press Tour at the Alain Locke Gallery (formerly the Cooper Gallery), led by Prof. Henry Louis Gates Jr. and curator Laylah Amatullah Barrayn, offered an intimate introduction to the DAY ONE DNA exhibition. Ice T, Treach from Naughty By Nature, and DJ Afrika Islam were in attendance alongside members of the press. The tour included visits to the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research and the Hip Hop Archive & Research Institute.
