THE
DAY ONE DNA
EXPERIENCE

The DAY ONE DNA Experience is the exhibition's signature public program series. This bold, cross-sector platform turns the exhibition into a live forum for culture, scholarship, and community exchange. The Experience extends the exhibition’s impact beyond the gallery by hosting curated conversations, immersive gatherings, and participatory programs in academic, cultural, and civic spaces.

Each Experience brings together artists, pioneers, scholars, students, educators, and community leaders for dialogue and exploration. Programming draws from the DAY ONE DNA network: Ice T, DJ Afrika Islam, Laylah Amatulah Barrayn, hip-hop pioneer advisors, academics, local partners, and contributors.

Every iteration of The DAY ONE DNA Experience is developed in close partnership with host venues and tailored to reflect the community's cultural priorities and lived context. The result is programming that is both locally grounded and nationally resonant. Through this series, DAY ONE DNA moves beyond exhibition into activation. It strengthens cultural ecosystems by connecting local artists with communities, fosters intergenerational exchange through collaborative projects, and generates lasting engagement by creating ongoing opportunities for participation beyond the event.
